SMITH, L.
Lyn Smith was born in South Africa, grew up in Zimbabwe and years later moved to Canada. Today her art is hanging in private collections in the USA, Canada and South Africa. Her art is fun, vibrant, simple and colorful.
“I started on a drawing board in Africa, until computers expanded my career into graphic design. In Toronto, I attended OCAD studying Art and Graphic Design, and there was exposed to both graphic and traditional styles which broadened my horizons. In 2003 I decided to focus on fine art full time, embracing several different media: watercolors, pastels and acrylics. The strong artistic community encouraged me to experiment. “Motivated by joyful movement, compelling rhythms and the excitement that color establishes, I strive for a balance between imposed order and happy occurrence by combining pouring methods with regular techniques using acrylic paint on canvas in both large and small sizes.”
Other Works
SMITH, M.
The simplicity of the countryside, combined with earthen colors make the new works by M. Smith very enticing for home and office. Smith was born in South Africa and raised in Zimbabwe, he arrived in Canada in the late 1980s.
After initially studying architecture, he attended the Salisbury School of Art, followed by in-depth studies with the UK's Michael Chase. His career continued as an award winning multinational art director/creative director, until he decided to move out into the country to paint full-time in 2003.
"Moving out to the countryside in Eastern Ontario was what originally inspired me to begin painting an ever-growing series of atmospheric landscapes in acrylics, and now in oils as well. My intention has been to attempt to capture just some of the feeling and drama that rural living engenders - it’s quite special, and certainly awakens a new sense of awe and respect from one who has, up till relatively recently, largely been an urban dweller"
