SAGE: American Impressionist
Sage is an impressionist with a soft, subtle approach to life, His paintings are enjoyed for their depth and feelings they evoke, from the rainy day reflections of light in Boston, New York City and Hong Kong, to the gentle marine images from Florida, Rockport and other locations. His most recent image, above, captures classic New York City, with towering buildings and horse drawn carriages. Sage works hard to master the light, reflections and even flow of every picture he tackles. He's a perfectionist with an approach that might include hundreds of pictures before he approaches his canvas. His work is sparked by the images he sees, and even the impressions he gleans from what he feels.
Born in Conn., Sage spent much of his younger years boating and fishing along the Conn. River. From an early age he was absorbed by art projects at school and spent much of his free time drawing. At Rollins College he earned his fine art degree, and then moved to Boston to work on a variety of jobs...even as he became increasingly absorbed by painting. He continued to experiment, and when he met American Impressionist John Terelak he began to realize his potential as an artist.
Under the guidance and encouragement of Terelak, Sage devoted himself to his work, advancing his techniques while letting his style unfold. He continued to challenge himself, translating the emotion behind what he painted. "My thoughts are mixed in with the excitement, hope, and solitude of the subject matter." He is now living his dream and aspiring to emerge among the ranks of America's leading impressionist. Whether painting en plein air or in his studio, Sage's paintings are captured in a subtle play of light and shadow and bold accents of color.
Most recently in 2005 he won Best of Show from the Vero Beach Art Club.
